For more than 60 years, our facilities have operated in an extremely safe manner. The health and safety of our workers, members of the public and the environment are our number one priority.
We are subject to inspection by numerous regulatory agencies at the federal, provincial and local government levels, including:
Each year, we submit Annual Compliance Reports to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Detailed performance information is available in these reports, which demonstrates that BWXT has successfully met the requirements of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act.
Licence Renewal: On November 12, 2018, BWXT submitted an application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to renew its Class IB Nuclear Fuel Facility Operating Licence for a period of 10 years.
The previous licence, issued on January 1, 2011, was valid until December 31, 2020. On December 21, 2020, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission issued a news release on their Record of Decision on BWXT’s licence renewal application.
On March 9, 2021, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission issued their Record of Decision on BWXT’s licence application. In their decision, the Commission renewed BWXT’s licence as two facility-specific licences.
The renewed facility-specific licences are valid from January 1, 2021, until December 31, 2030.
