BWRX-300

The BWRX-300 is a small modular reactor (SMR) designed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy to be a cost-effective, passively safe, innovative and reliable nuclear reactor, capable of generating 300 MW of carbon-free power. In addition to helping customers achieve decarbonization goals, the BWRX-300 is designed to reduce construction and operating costs. Specifically, the BWRX-300 leverages a unique combination of existing fuel, plant simplifications, proven components and a design based on an NRC-certified reactor design.

In January 2025, we announced a contract to manufacture the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for GE Hitachi’s BWRX-300 SMR. We are the first manufacturer in OECD countries to begin this type of work for SMR technology and are well-positioned to contribute to the deployment of SMRs across Canada and beyond.

GE Hitachi’s BWRX-300 RPV, with BWXT will manufacture for the first grid scale SMR installation at the Darlington NGS.
