Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) is pleased to announce that the plant has successfully completed its recovery efforts, has all necessary safety and environmental protocols in place and is now resuming normal production activities.
Thank you to all our dedicated employees and partners for their hard work and support throughout this process. As operations ramp up, NFS will continue to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and safety excellence.
An NFS offsite warehouse was heavily damaged, resulting in some NFS property being carried away by floodwater. These items include empty and clean containers, training equipment and new personal protective equipment. Although some of the containers are marked “fissile radioactive material,” as required by Department of Transportation regulations, they are empty and clean. NFS is working with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to locate and return the property. None of the items pose a risk to the public or the environment. Most of the property has been recovered and bought to the plant site. Additionally, the water discharge flow test on Oct. 9 was successful with no piping leaks detected.
BWXT, the parent company of NFS, announced a $100,000 donation to the Unicoi County United Way to support the relief efforts underway in the Erwin community. The contribution will directly support emergency response teams on the ground, helping to provide essential supplies, medical aid, shelter and long-term recovery services to those affected by this historical and devastating event.
