DOE Extends Management and Operating Contract at Idaho National Laboratory
B&W Member of Battelle Energy Alliance
(CHARLOTTE, N.C. – April 8, 2014) – The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE:BWC) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has exercised an option in Battelle Energy Alliance’s (BEA) prime contract, of which B&W is a major participant, to operate the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) for an additional five years.
“Receiving this extension speaks to the quality work that the BEA team is executing at INL,” said Chuck Spencer, Chief Operating Officer, Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc. “The strong performance achieved at INL is a reflection of the talented workforce and the exceptional leadership team that is in place.”
The option for a five-year extension was part of the DOE contract awarded to BEA in November 2004 for a ten-year term. BEA will now operate INL through September 30, 2019. The BEA team is responsible for managing and operating INL, which is charged with enhancing the nation’s energy security as an internationally recognized nuclear energy research, development and demonstration laboratory.
In addition to B&W, the BEA team includes Battelle, URS Corporation, Electric Power Research Institute, and two university consortiums: the National University Consortium comprised of: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Ohio State University, North Carolina State University, University of New Mexico, and Oregon State University, and the Idaho University Consortium comprised of University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Boise State University.
