BWXT to Deliver Inspection Delivery System to Bruce Power to Support Low Cost Power
(PETERBOROUGH, ON – February 10, 2017) – BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc.
(BWXT NEC) will ship the Bruce Reactor Inspection Maintenance System – the second of its kind – to Bruce Power on February 24, 2017. Known as BRIMS II, this highly engineered reactor inspection delivery tool system will meet its scheduled delivery date.
“The completion of this project is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication from our employees who not only worked to meet the schedule, but did so safely,” said Mark Ward, President, BWXT NEC. “We are proud to build BRIMS II in Peterborough and are excited about continuing to work with Bruce Power throughout the life extension program and beyond.”
“This system will improve worker safety and save time, ensuring we continue to provide a source of low-cost power to Ontario families and businesses,” said Len Clewett, Executive Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Bruce Power.
"This is great news for the BWXT team in Peterborough. It recognizes the skilled talent of the Peterborough team in developing state of the art technology for Canada's nuclear industry," said Jeff Leal, Member of Provincial Parliament for Peterborough.
Bruce Power generates 30 per cent of Ontario’s electricity at 30 per cent less than the average residential price. In 2016, Bruce Power was paid 6.6 cents per kilowatt-hour (kw/h) for its electricity, while the average residential price was about 11 cents per kw/h. Ontario’s Long-Term Energy Plan is counting on Bruce Power’s eight units to supply clean, low cost, reliable electricity for decades to come.
BRIMS II will make its debut during Bruce Power’s scheduled maintenance and inspection program on Unit 3 later this year.
