BWXT employees trained as Nuclear Ambassadors
BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) has partnered with the American Nuclear Society to offer customized ANS Nuclear Ambassadors training to BWXT employees. The training kicked off in February with an initial two-hour virtual event that was presented to more than 60 BWXT employees, and it wrapped in April.
BWXT is the first company to participate in ANS’s newly revamped curriculum, which trains experts in K-12 learning.
This free service provided by ANS is a part of the growing offerings of ANS's K-12 program. (The other three programs are Navigating Nuclear, Educator Training and Pathways to Nuclear.) Ambassador training consists of two virtual sessions, and it equips nuclear professionals to conduct nuclear science education outreach in K-12 classrooms and informal learning settings. It also provides numerous resources, presentations, activities, STEM kits and other materials to Nuclear Ambassadors to leverage in their outreach efforts. More information can be found at www.ans.org/ambassadors.
“Our collaboration with ANS has been particularly beneficial in preparing our employees to deliver interesting and relevant content to students,” said Elsa Knapp, BWXT’s social impact specialist and coordinator of the program for BWXT. “We are planning to co-host additional trainings for our recent Nuclear Ambassador trainees as a community of learning for employees, and we’ll also be offering a second BWXT cohort the training this fall.”
ANS is looking for additional partners that would like to experience custom training, which will provide important feedback in preparation for the launch of an asynchronous, virtual Nuclear Ambassador training program later this year.
